Millions
of (young) people joined marches to protest against climate warning throughout the
world on Sept. 20, 2019.
I
joined a march in Tokyo.
The
march was organized by Fridays for future Tokyo, a part of worldwide activities
initiated by a Swedish high school girl Greta Thunberg last year.
We
started the march from U.N. university in Shibuya area.
We
walked through Aoyama Street
Omote
Sando Street
Meiji
Dori Street (See also the 3rd photo from the top)
Inogashira
Dori Street
Then
passed through the famous scramble crossings in front of JR Shibuya station. (See the top Photo)
There
were several findings.
(1) The march was conducted peacefully. Participants
enjoyed a picnic-like event.
(3) The number of the participants was about 3000. The
size is far smaller than other major cities in the world. (250 thousands in
NYC)
We marched in a narrow line at the end of the road, watching cars passing by besides us.
(4) Many foreigners participated in the march. Slogans were mainly called in English, not in Japanese.
(5) Reactions from the people at the side of the road
and from the footbridge were warm. The expressions of their support were more
active from foreigners, rather than from Japanese.
The
march arrived at the U.N. Univ (starting point) again. Participants went back
to their homes by twos and threes.
